Women's Basketball Hall of Fame
2002 Induction Ceremony
The Inductees and their escorts were driven from the Hall to
the auditorium . . .
 |
|
"Are we there yet?"
"Don't make me stop this van..." |
While a chorus warmed up the audience, nervous honorees
loitered back stage . . .
 |
 |
| "Don't think about the fact that you're going
first and if you screw up everyone will notice..." Lea
Plarski gives a pep talk after Cindy Brogdon learns honorees will
walk out in alphabetical order |
Tara VanDerveer (right) is not unhappy with
the news... |
As feared, too much idle time led some astray . . .
 |
|
Two shady characters lurk outside the restrooms |
And then, it was The Big Moment for the Inductees and their escorts ...
 |
|
"Um...Cindy? Where is everyone
else?" |
 |
| "Hey, aren't you supposed to be down there?" Marianne Stanley (right, 4th from end) and Tara VanDerveer (2nd from end)
muscle in on Cindy's and my territory (6th and 5th from end) |
After the initial presentation, the inductees received their 17-pound
awards individually, then gathered on stage for a last hurrah . . .
 |
 |
| "Why yes, I probably would have scored
40 points a game if the 3-point shot had been around in my day..."
(Cindy was the 2nd all-time leading scorer in the AIAW, which governed
women's collegiate competition before the NCAA.) |
"Where can I get one of those dresses?"
Cindy with fellow honoree Hortencia de Fatima Marcari Oliva of
Brazil. On her right is Margaret Sexton Gleaves, whose post play
helped win 5 AAU championships in the '40s |
